Dynamic Evolution of Information Resources Management Curriculum
Published in Research on Library Science, 2026
This study tracks the dynamic evolution of the information resources management (IRM) curriculum, offering insights into the trends of disciplinary development and talent cultivation in the field. Grounded in the iField framework integrating five core elements (information, technology, people, organization/society, and management, ITPOM), a subject analysis framework for IRM curriculum is designed. Cross-institutional variations, popular subjects, and the evolution of knowledge structures in IRM curriculum are then examined using short-panel data from six universities for 2015 and 2024. The findings reveal that the IRM curriculum in China is shifting toward data-driven and technology-governance–driven paradigms, with library science, information science, and archival science converging around information management as a shared core. In the future, IRM talent cultivation will strike a balance between technological empowerment and humanistic values, and will meet social needs through curriculum innovation.
